Gary has been involved in church music most of his life. When he was growing up, he joined a youth group at his church and since ninth grade, has been directing church, community and high school choirs and bands non-stop.

Gary has taught public school for many years, coming from Kingsland High School as his last position. Gary is listed in “Who’s Who in America’s Teachers” in 2003, 2004, and 2005 and has obtained his D.M.A. (Doctor of Musical Arts) in conducting from the University of Minnesota. He has attended Rochester Community College, St. Cloud State College, Mankato State University, Luther College and the University of Minnesota. He conducts festivals and adjudicates music contests both within the high school and college ranks.

Shirley, his wife, works at St. Mary's Hospital and they live in Rochester. His hobbies include teaching, landscaping and home improvement. Together, they enjoy traveling, attending concerts and being with their children and grandchildren.
